Overview

Mission: SPACE is EPCOT’s most intense simulator-style attraction, offering either a stronger Orange Mission to Mars or a gentler Green Mission around Earth. It leans heavily into astronaut training, making it one of the park’s most distinct thrill experiences.

The Queue

The queue feels like a futuristic training facility, with a mission-control atmosphere that reinforces the idea that you are preparing for real flight. It has more of a procedural, pre-launch tone than a whimsical one, which works well for the ride’s NASA-inspired concept.

The Ride

After training, riders board the X-2 Deep Space Shuttle for either a more intense mission using a centrifuge or a milder non-spinning mission. Orange Mission is the more demanding option and simulates launch and reentry forces, while Green Mission provides lighter motion without spinning.

Info

Height Requirement: 40”

Intensity: Green Mission: 4/10 | Orange Mission: 8/10

Ride Type: Enclosed motion simulator

Vehicle: Team-based shuttle simulator

Restraints: Pull-down ride harness

Accessibility:

  • Must transfer from wheelchair/ECV

  • Enclosed cabin

  • Motion simulation

Warnings:

  • Claustrophobic ride space

  • Motion sickness risk

  • Intense g-forces on Orange Mission

  • Not ideal for guests sensitive to spinning or pressure sensations

Tips

  • Choose Green Mission if you are unsure.

  • Do not ride Orange Mission on a full stomach if you are motion sensitive.

  • This is one of the easiest rides at EPCOT to misjudge based on appearance alone.

  • The post-show area is helpful for kids who still want a space-themed experience without riding.

The Good

  • Unique concept

  • Strong pre-show and theme

  • Clear thrill option for adrenaline-seekers

  • Green Mission gives flexibility

  • Feels different from anything else in the park

The Not-So-Good

  • Orange Mission is too intense for many guests.

  • Enclosed cabins can be uncomfortable.

  • Not a universal family ride.

  • Some guests may skip it entirely due to motion concerns.

Conclusion

Mission: SPACE is a very specific ride, but for the right guest, that is exactly what makes it memorable. If you enjoy immersive simulators and understand your motion tolerance, it can be one of EPCOT’s most distinctive experiences.
