Entrance of Sickies Garage: Burgers & Brews in Kissimmee

We have driven past Sickies Garage for the past year, saying, "We have to try Sickies." Well, this weekend, we were out and about during lunchtime and got to stop at the one on 192 in Kissimmee. This restaurant boasts 50+ Burgers and Brews and only has a few restaurants throughout the United States, making it reasonably special to Orlando. So, is it worth a stop while you are in Orlando or Kissimmee for vacation?

As a person with food allergies, I am always hesitant to try places that don't have an allergy menu, which this place doesn't, and that is why it took us so long to try it; however, with few things that had my allergen on the menu, I got the courage to give this place a try.

I will say, if I ever decided to open a restaurant, I could imagine my menu options looking very similar. I found myself having difficulty deciding, which is rare for me since, on top of my allergies, I am a bit of a picky eater. So, having more than one option that sounded good was exciting for me and had me planning another trip before we even got our food.

A Taste of the Menu

With so many options that had the potential to be delicious, we ordered several dishes to sample the variety offered. These included the Pepperoni Pizza Burger, Chicken Mac and Cheese, Mac and Cheese Burger with Pulled Pork, and Wings With Wild Willy's Sauce. But to start, we opted for the Spare Parts appetizer.

Spare Parts: A Perfect Start

We ordered the appetizer, Spare Parts, which offered a mix of fried favorites, including crispy onion rings, fried pickles & jalapenos, and cheese curds. It was really hot, so you could tell it just came from the fryer, and the consensus around the table was that everything was great and we would get it again if we ever found ourselves at this restaurant again.

The Burgers: So Many Unique Options

With so many burger options, we went back and forth on which burgers we should try, but we knew we would try the Pepperoni Pizza Burger. This burger, hugged by two slices of Texas toast topped with Cheese and Pepperoni, makes for a fun and unique option, and was the big selling point for us trying this restaurant.

After some deliberation, we decided the other burger would be the Mac and Cheese Burger with Pulled Pork. This burger has a regular beef patty topped with creamy mac and cheese and an optional pulled pork addition. Considering they had mac & cheese bowls, we anticipated that the mac & cheese should be a decent option, and being able to add pulled pork pushed it over the edge for beating out the other tempting options.

Since they also had a variety of Mac & Cheese bowls, trying one had to happen, after all, one of my favorite meals is the Twisted Mac & Cheese from Hard Rock Cafe, so I opted for the Chicken Mac and Cheese. This dish has a white cheddar cheese sauce, and you can add your choice of protein. I decided on chicken, which ended up just being a chopped up chicken tender.

Wild Willy's Wings & Dessert

With the option of traditional or boneless wings and a variety of choices for how many wings and sauces you want, even more decisions had to be made about what we wanted to try first. These grilled wings had Sickie's signature wing sauce, Wild Willy's—a sweet sauce with a hint of spicy.

Then, to top it all off, we ordered the Butterfinger Milkshake—a vanilla ice cream base shake, with Butterfinger pieces mixed in and topped with whipped cream.

The Good

We really enjoyed the appetizer. The Cheese Curds are some of the best that I have had, and the fried pickles, jalapenos, and onion rings were all on point. The wings had a lot of meat on them and had a good flavor, so trying a few more of their wing sauces is on our to-do list. The milkshake options add another fun layer to all the unique burger options. The atmosphere was light-hearted, the staff was friendly, and considering all the options on the menu was a welcome dilemma.

The Not-So-Good

While most of us are patient in our group, we commented that the appetizer seemed to be taking a while, and even our waitress seemed surprised that it wasn't out yet. We think that since we ordered it at the same time as the entrees, the kitchen may have originally thought the appetizer was someone's main meal and didn't get it together until the end of the main entrees because it came out shortly before our entrees and those came out a bit on the chilly side.

In fact, the Mac & Cheese Burger was cold, and as you can see in the picture above, the cheese on top the the Chicken Mac & Cheese was not melted, which seemed a bit out of place for the dish.

So, is it worth it?

Our overall consensus? The prices were in line with most restaurants in the tourist area, and the atmosphere was fun but not completely original if you are looking for a more unique dining experience. However, the variety of options, along with some delicious foods we had, has us anticipating a return trip in the future.

If you are only here for a week and are spending most of your time at theme parks, don't go out of your way to fit this in. If you do not have a packed theme park schedule or find yourself in Orlando/Kissimmee, Sickies Garage is worth a try, especially with so many burger options, you are bound to find one you enjoy.

OIC Vacation Tips

That being said, if you are just looking for a great, traditional burger, consider visiting Rainforest Cafe instead. I have had a burger there four times, and three out of the four times, it has been one of the best burgers I have ever had. The other time, it was still better than most. There is also a wide menu variety outside of burgers and comfort food, plus, the atmosphere is a bit more out-of-the-ordinary and only slightly more expensive for the experience.
