Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party packs a surprising amount of Halloween fun into five official party hours. Between the parade, fireworks, castle show, characters, candy, specialty food and ride overlays, it is easy to spend the entire night racing from one thing to another. The secret is not trying to do everything. Arrive early, choose your must-do experiences and save the official party hours for the things you cannot enjoy during a regular Magic Kingdom day. This guide will help you build a plan without scheduling every spooky second.

Before the Party

Start planning before you arrive at Magic Kingdom. Choose two or three experiences that would make the night feel successful for your group.

Your priorities might include:

🎃 Watching all three major entertainment offerings

👑 Meeting one or two rare characters

🍬 Collecting as much candy as possible

🌑 Experiencing the Halloween attraction overlays

🍴 Trying several party-exclusive foods

📸 Finding PhotoPass Magic Shots

Trying to do all of these equally is where the trouble begins. Decide what matters most, then allow the rest of the evening to unfold around those choices.

Take a screenshot of the entertainment schedule before the party begins. My Disney Experience is helpful, but crowded events can drain your battery and sometimes make the app slow to load.

4:00 PM to About 6:45 PM: Use Early Entry Wisely

Your MNSSHP ticket allows you to enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4:00 PM, but most party-exclusive activities do not begin until 7:00 PM. Use this time to get settled and take advantage of the few party-related experiences already available.

During early entry, you can:

🎃 Pick up your party wristband and treat bag

📸 Take advantage of early party photo opportunities

👻 Enjoy character interactions that may be happening around the park

💀 Head straight to Jack and Sally if meeting them is a priority

🛍️ Shop for party-exclusive MNSSHP merchandise at the Emporium

🍿 Purchase party-exclusive popcorn buckets and other limited items available to guests with party wristbands

🍽️ Eat an early dinner or grab a snack before the official party begins

This is also a good time to ride regular Magic Kingdom attractions, especially anything you do not want taking up valuable party time later. Just remember that most character meet-and-greets, trick-or-treat trails, entertainment and Halloween overlays do not begin until the party officially starts at 7:00 PM.

Go Straight to Jack and Sally When They Are a Priority

Jack Skellington and Sally traditionally have one of the longest character waits at the party. During prime party hours, the line can take around two hours or more.

If meeting them is one of your must-do experiences, consider arriving at Magic Kingdom around 2 PM and wait at the main gate queue to get to Jack and Sally as quick as possible and be one of the firsts in line. They may not begin greeting immediately, but waiting during the early-entry window is much better than sacrificing the parade, fireworks or other exclusive entertainment later. Guests who are only mildly interested should think carefully before joining a very long line. MNSSHP passes too quickly to spend a large part of it waiting for a character who is not a true priority.

Suggested MNSSHP Schedule

This schedule focuses on using early entry wisely, enjoying party activities during the first half of the night and ending with the three biggest entertainment offerings from the same general area.

Around 6:50 PM: Find Your Entertainment Spot

Around 6:50 PM, head to the top of the hub and look toward the Sleepy Hollow bridge. This is one of Orlando Is Cool’s favorite parade-viewing locations because you can see the parade coming through Liberty Square and into the hub while staying in a great position for the castle stage and fireworks afterward.

If you have several people in your group, take turns holding your space once the party begins while someone grabs party-exclusive food or treats from nearby locations. That lets you enjoy some of the specialty menu without giving up your viewing spot or wasting the wait before the parade.

8:15 PM: Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade

9:05 PM: Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular

10:00 PM: Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular

You may want to shift slightly as the crowd changes between performances, but you should not need to find three completely different viewing locations. Once the fireworks end, you still have almost two hours of party time left for rides, characters, candy, and anything else you want to squeeze in before midnight.

Costume Rules

MNSSHP is one of the few times guests ages 14 and older may wear costumes inside Magic Kingdom, but Disney’s costume guidelines still apply.

Costumes must be family-friendly and may not be offensive, violent or disruptive. They cannot contain realistic weapons, sharp objects or materials that could accidentally strike another guest. Guests ages 14 and older may not wear costume masks. Capes cannot extend below the waist, and costumes may not drag along the ground. Layered costumes or accessories that surround the entire body may receive additional security screening. Guests may dress as Disney Characters, but they cannot pose for photos with other guests, sign autographs or pretend to be official Disney performers.

Children ages 13 and younger may wear certain masks as long as their eyes remain fully visible and the mask does not interfere with peripheral vision. Costume rules may be enforced at Disney’s discretion, so leave anything questionable at home.

Costume Ideas for Florida Weather

A cute costume can become a lot less magical after several hours in Florida heat and humidity. Lightweight outfits inspired by characters are often more comfortable than heavy, full costumes. Dresses cannot touch the ground.

Good choices include:

👻 Lightweight dresses with comfortable shoes

🏴‍☠️ Simple pirate outfits

🧙 Halloween-themed ears and accessories

🦹 Disney villain colors without a full costume

👨‍👩‍👧 Coordinated family shirts or color themes

Choose breathable fabrics and avoid heavy wigs, thick makeup and multiple layers during August and September. Bring a change of clothes when wearing anything that may become uncomfortable later. Comfortable shoes matter more than perfectly matching your costume. You will be walking, standing and waiting for several hours.

Florida weather can remain hot and humid throughout much of the party season, and evening rain is always possible. Choose costumes, bags and footwear that can handle the conditions.
